My wife and I took a November drive from from Naples-Lecce-Naples, with intermediate stops. One of them was in Tricarico. The Palazzo Laureano - Dimora Storica is a beautifully and recently restored mansion located right next to the city's cathedral. The restoration is superb. The Manager, Maria, met us at the door, checked us in, walked us through the ground floor and up to our room on the third floor. Five rooms are off a large and beautiful sitting area. The room offered a nice view to the west. It was spacious, spotless, and well-equipped. The photos speak for themselves. Breakfast was very good. On day three Maria gave us a tour of the Palazzo, including five of the twenty or so rooms, family suites and apartments. The hotel is owned by a chef in Rome, and he has collected most of the furnishings, including sculptures, carvings, and even a very nice (real) Model A Ford (!) in the lobby. In November the town is very quiet. Two good restaurants are nearby, and in each of them we were the only diners for much of our meal. (When Tourist Season ends in Tricarico, it ENDS!) Still, we walked the town easily, seeing the Convent with its beautiful murals, the Saracen Gate, the Norman Tower (closed for us), and the Cathedral. An hour away was the amazing abandoned city of Craco (look it up!), a must-see which can only be toured in a guided group. The E11 fee was money well spent. We had a great time in Tricarico, and we were sorry to leave the Palazzo.

This family run, special place is 75% self sustaining. With Solar and water collection systems etc. It’s a must experience for families especially with children. There is a resident donkey named Nestor and sheep, chickens and dogs and cats. But most importantly the family running it are genuine and caring. To top off everything, it’s is a thriving Bee farm. Don’t be concerned the Bees are a ways away from the residence where you will stay in fantastic accommodations. It’s a 3 bedroom structure with a double room with on suite bath, a twin room and then a double room with two twin beds. The second two rooms share a lovely bath. Both baths have showers. The double room also has a crib for babies! They have thought of everything!!!! We traveled as 4 adults and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will return to this tranquil paradise. They are educating the public on the importance of self sufficiency and caring for our planet home. Reserve the homemade breakfast consisting of their products in advance. You won’t be disappointed. Purchase their honey and homemade candles. Price for the stay and their items are very economical for what you receive. They understand the true meaning of hospitality. We felt like family! Next visit we will also explore their other business dedicated to relaxing and improving your health.
