Easy check-in and checkout, close to everything, and VERY good value for the money. Lots of onsen nearby for morning/night shower since the stay itself doesn't have any ways of showering. They also provide a towel set for onsen, which you can bring to the onsens so you don't have to rent. Parking is great too!

The owners were absolutely lovely and we had some excellent chats in Japanese around the kotatsu with tea and sake on new years! We also met some wonderful people staying at the guesthouse who I had a lovely time doing 初詣 with in the middle of the night after going to the footbath! The guesthouse is very central to a lot in Kusatsu onsen with lots of access.

First time skiing in Japan (few times in other locations) so we didn't know what to expect. We found this family hotel where the staff is incredibly friendly! We had some basic ski gear but we needed skis, boots, helmets, etc and Ken (son of Captain) had everything needed for rent. It saved us a lot of time and hassle. On top of that, the dinners were succulent (Ryokan style), there is a common room where you can have a drink and kids can play games, and the location is right on the resort so that you jump on your skis 5 meters out of the hotel door!

The room was clean and warm. There are no more than 4 people in the "hostel" style room. The location of the guesthouse is close to the center of Kusatsu, so it's easy to get around. The staff was also really helpful.
