The stay was very comfortable, clean and spacious for a couple. The owner was amazing, they went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. I stayed in the Deluxe Double Room at Welcome Family Guest House for two nights. It was impeccably clean - truly, completely spotless and there was no fault to find anywhere! The Guest House is located right behind Bentota station, and is perhaps a 6 minute walk to the beach, and to the main road. So it really doesn't get any better than this, especially for the price. But if I had to choose one reason why you absolutely must stay here - it is the incredibly warm Sri Lankan couple and their sons whom you live with. On the first night, I told them I was vegetarian, so the host came with me to the neighbouring restaurant to ask them to cook something especially for me. They also arrange mangrove safaris, and provide amaaaazing Sri Lankan breakfast every morning. The spread is quite vast and I actually had to ask them to cut back on the servings as it was a little too much for me (not often that you find yourself being over-served food in a guest house!) I was also a solo female traveller and felt completely safe here. Please go!
