Our three-night stay at Matraville Homestay was a very welcome change-of-pace after jungle treks and volcano hikes in Bukit Lawang and Berestagi. Our unit was VERY large (it would have easily suited a family of four) and well-appointed with a TV, fridge, sink and kettle for use. It was also spread over two levels, with the downstairs serving as the entrance/living room area/kitchenette, and the bedroom and bathroom/separate shower area upstairs. BONUS(ES): the unit entrance featured a little patio with a table and chair where you could have an early-morning coffee or tea while facing the sunrise; the upstairs level also provided a small balcony area to take in the morning sun or evening dusk. While the room we chose was across the street from the water (a 90-second walk at most, down a couple of shallow flights of steps, and therefore didn’t provide a direct waterfront view), there are two rooms available in another portion of the property that face the water and are just steps from it. Our excellent Host, Dimmer, picked us up from the Tuk Tuk ferry landing (and can also drop you off when you depart) and will provide you with everything you might need to make your stay comfortable, including tips on places to eat or have coffee nearby and suggestions for what to do/see on Samosir Island. He will also provide scooters for daily/multi-day use for very reasonable rates.

Asim Paris Guesthouse & jungle trekking có khu vườn, khu vực bãi biển riêng, sân hiên và nhà hàng ở Bukit Lawang. Ngoài dịch vụ tiền sảnh, chỗ nghỉ này còn có BBQ. The guesthouse is in an amazing location, on the shore of the river. The rooms are cosy and have a nice terrace facing the river. Andy and his bother were very nice and helpful all the time. The banana pancakes for breakfast are delicious.

Comfortable beds, beautifully decorated room, amazing tropical garden, delicious food in the restaurant, the well organised and executed overnight tour into the jungle (yes, we were lucky to see orangutans in the wild) But it is the people working at the Orangutan discovery villa that made our stay unforgettable - highly hospitable, accommodating, genuine in every way. If we are ever to go back to Bukit Lawang it will be the this place.

Lovely and quiet with beautiful views of the jungle and and rice fields. We had a really comfortable 2 nights before and after our jungle trek which was super easy to organise prior to arrival, along with transfers to and from the airport. The staff were all super friendly and welcoming. We ate here for breakfast and dinner and the food was really tasty and very good value for money.

Seagate Bungalows are very new, located right by the water with beautiful views. Exceptional bathrooms and room facilities. The hosts (Borja and Yuyun) with their staff are very hands-on with any requests and queries, etc. They even arranged for snorkelling, dolphin watching trip and transport etc. The on-site restaurant serves good food and good service. Would definitely come and stay again, and recommend to friends and family.

Andri was the nicest host ever, he helps you a lot with everything you might need, and personalize also the plans you want to do. Me and my family can only recommend to stay at Sahnan guest house.

The 2 guides Rian and Santa were the best guides I’ve encountered anywhere in all my years of traveling. They were so kind, funny and thoughtful. The food on the trek was phenomenal and it really was a wonderful experience. The property is great, with a beautiful lush green garden.

Batu Kapal Guest House & Jungle trekking có khu vườn, sân hiên, nhà hàng và quầy bar ở Bukit Lawang. Chỗ nghỉ này cung cấp dịch vụ phòng, quầy lễ tân 24 giờ và dịch vụ thu đổi ngoại tệ cho khách. Staff is amazing, food is great and also the location which is deeper in the jungle. Only accessible by motorbike, but the staff is super flexible and take you up and down to the town whenever you want (not needed and not expected but we tipped them a bit every time). We saw so many orangutans with them! Even when taking the trip to the batcave, but I think we were lucky. Would definitely recommend Batu Kapal!
