It was a great experience, with a huge vibe. Staying on a previous school. Kitchen with everything you can imagine. With good coffee/chocolate/tea available. Staff was amazing and made a great sugestion for dinner.

Effective October 1, 2025, a lodging tax will be introduced by ordinance of Takayama City. In addition to the room charge, 100 yen per person per day will be charged. The people working there are both friendly, helpful and caring, it felt like they had a genuine intrest in their guests. The common areas are clean and cosy with a relaxed vibe, and when I was there the guests interacted with each other so you could get to know new people if you wanted to. The place was also in walking distance to both the bus station, old part of town and to a shopping mall with a proper supermarket. If you dont want to walk, there is a 7/11 right next door, or there is the possibility to buy food and coffee at the place. If I come back to Takayama I would choose to stay here again

The staff was SO friendly, dinner and breakfast were amazing and the place itself was new and tidy. Our room also had insanely nice views to the mountains. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Our host, Assi, was waiting for us at the property and was very accommodating. Speaking very good English and showing us all the facilities of this very beautifully restored traditional Japanese house. The house is made very comfortable with excellent home-style kitchen and living room, both supplied with high quality vinyl and CD sound systems. He suggested an excellent restaurant run by a man and his wife that was equally homely and with very good food. There is also a very cool vinyl cafe close-by that would not be out of place in Brooklyn New York. We were very nicely surprised by our stay at Guesthouse SHIGI and would recommend anyone detours a few minutes from the Nakasendo Trail to experience something truly special.

The place is so beautiful and located on the Nakasendo. The little neighbourhood is very cute. The garden was a magic touch. The beds were very comfortable. Although breakfast at the cafe was delicious. We loved our stay. My daughter said that it was her dream house.

The owner is super nice kind and lovely!! We came wet from the rain and he helped me dry my shoes with special dryer, he gave us to use bikes (with electric assistant) for free, there is a parking space close to the guesthouse but the owner also provide shuttle to center Takayama - so also it is far from the center (about 30 min walk), with the bikes and the shuttle it didn't feel this way. The kitchen was equipped, and the owner gave us bottles of water and didn't let us pay! He is a very sweet guy and we had a really good experience in this guesthouse that was also very very clean and affordable!!

They will tell you everything you need about Gifu and nearby cities. The Guesthouse's is in calm area 15 by train and 30 min by walk. They're are convenients stores and few restaurants nearby. The hosts can get you and bring you back to train station when you arrive and leave.
