Ikenotaira Onsen, Myoko
Situated in Myoko, 31 km from Zenkoji Temple and 33 km from Nagano Station, Pension Moomin Papa features accommodation with free WiFi, air conditioning, a garden and a shared lounge. The accommodation has a spa bath. The Japanese senior couple managing the pension are genuinely the sweetest people we could have dreamed of. Moomin Papa picked us up at the station at arrival and dropped us off (super early in the morning) after checkout. He drove us and the other guests in the morning to the ski resorts nearby and was also willing to pick us up in the afternoon. He was also great at giving dinner recommendations. The pension is simple and welcoming, breakfast is great and all we needed for a full day on the slopes. The onsen is a bit old but we didn’t mind. If you have very long hair it could take a while to dry with the available hairdryer - just to keep in mind. Rooms are nice and warm and the beds are comfortable. WiFi works well. Overall I would say it was a beautiful stay, the hosts and their care in everything they did made the experience 100 times better. Highly recommend!

This recently renovated guest house is located 31 km from Zenkoji Temple and 33 km from Nagano Station. The property is non-smoking and is located 41 km from Jigokudani Monkey Park. What a place! Dave and Lisa run a warm, welcoming Lodge and work hard to make everyone feel at home. They are great hosts and go that extra mile to make your stay memorable. From the minute we got off the train in Myoko we were looked after. From organizing ski hire and lessons (at last minute), driving us to and from the resorts, to booking and shuttling us to dinner (and even joining us some nights), Dave and Lisa made us feel welcome. We even got a guided off-piste snow boarding tour of Madarao with Dave on a powder day. Kitsune has a relaxed and communal vibe which is in no small part the result of Dave and Lisa's caring approach to their guests. It was a truly unique and unforgettable experience. We will definitely be back Thanks Dave and Lisa.

The guest house offers a buffet or continental breakfast. At A short walk to Akakura Onsen Ski Lift and Town by Japow House, the family-friendly restaurant is open for dinner and serves American cuisine. The guest house is located in a geothermal area, with a number of hot springs nearby for guests to relax in. Beautiful vibes with owners Kimi and Miyu, with their lovely daughters running amok and bringing cheer everywhere! Rooms were great. Breakfast was just right, decent variety and plentiful, perfect for fuelling before a day out. Really wonderful memories of Japow house, especially while winding down in the evenings with other guests, amidst the open and homely vibe. One thing to note for rental cars - make sure you get a 4wd, else when the snow picks up, you have to park at the post office carpark some ways out nearer the main town strip.

At the property, there is an in-house family-friendly restaurant serving dinner and a selection of vegetarian options. The guest house is located in a geothermal area, with a number of hot springs nearby for guests to relax in. Incredibly warm and friendly staff, we felt so welcome and comfortable the entire stay. Was great having a large lounge downstairs with a bar and food available so we could gather there together with friends who were staying at nearby lodging. It’s a short walk to all the activity/restaurants on the main drag, and to the ski lift/ticket office. Facilities are older but very clean and we never lacked for anything. We appreciated the fresh hot tea and treats each afternoon in the room, and great breakfast/coffee each morning. Shinja, Kenji, Hitomi and their families were so sweet and incredibly helpful with everything to make sure we had an enjoyable visit. We are planning to stay at Hotel Mumon again on any future visits to the area!

Woody House Kazamidori has mountain views, free WiFi and free private parking, situated in Myoko, 32 km from Zenkoji Temple. The 2-star guest house features river views and is 34 km from Nagano Station. Guests can enjoy garden views. Midori is a lovely hostess, and her husband, despite his stoic nature did crack a smile when I thanked him on our last day. The lodge is wholesome and lovely. its location, it's not too much of a hassle as they will drive you wherever you want in the morning, you just have to find your own way back. A taxi ride from arakusa onsen is around 1000 yen if you miss the last bus so not too much trouble. Breakfast is small and simple, but plenty adequate and tasty considering how much you'll eat on the slopes and for dinner. Nice and quiet, great storage/drying room for ski stuff and warm bath waiting for you when you get back from the snow.

Excellent breakfast, great hosts, super clean and comfortable!
Great location, hosts are extremely friendly and accomodating, and the additional service of being driven to anywhere you need to go made the property a fantastic choice for those wanting to ski or snowboard Myoko.
We loved the family feel of the property! Miyu and Kimmi were great hosts. Always driving us to the slopes and able to assist in recommending onsens and restaurants and booking them too. The breakfast was fresh and tasty daily. Their ski knowledge was exceptional and gave great advice depending on conditions. We can highly recommend this property. We got a great taste of Japanese family life, they were so inclusive of our family of five. Akakura Onsen and Kanko were gorgeous family run resorts.
Relaxed feel Great Hosts
Wasabi Wonderland was like walking into a chalet you see in the movies. It was beautiful and comfortable. All the furnishings had an attention to detail that was noticeable. The different layers of the house created almost an ‘adventure’ inside the house. The scenery was spectacular. Matt and Jen were great hosts and nothing was too hard - including helping us to take our daughter to the local hospital with a translator.
Great host, great breakfast. Will be back!
Great location (ski in - ski out), friendly hosts, good food, good onsen, good drying room, coin laundry, communal kitchen, everything you need - and great value for money
beautifully designed, great hosts, tasty breakfasts!
