We were travelling around on motorbikes and found this fantastic guesthouse, which was very clean, with spacious rooms and all amenities required within striking distance to Mt Aso. The owner was very helpful, even helping us book ferry tickets to Shikoku, and the attached Izakya had great food and atmosphere.

Conveniently located near bus/train station and both supermarkets in Oboke. Peaceful location next to a small tea plantation. Easy access to the gorge for walking and taking the boat trip. Also close to hiking trails either starting in Oboke or with the bus. Nice bonus to have private kitchen (each room has its own). Kitchen was clean and well equipped. Room was spacious and warm.

This guesthouse is worth the climb: located in a beautiful mountainous forest, the sounds of cities and cars are replaced by nature and animals. Takao-san is a wonderful host: he came to our car in the pouring rain with spare umbrellas and upgraded us to the largest room as we were the only guests that night. His family was also very welcoming and sweet. Everything was clean, combining the convivial guesthouse atmosphere to the traditional ryokan room architecture.
