On the day of check in , muu-chan, one of the guest house manager is very kind and luckily we had a great time with other wonderful guests from all over the world, the stars we saw together at night on the near by beach were beautiful! She went above and beyond by picking us up from the ferry port and helping with recommendations. The room is simple, island accommodation but the shared common room is very nice with instruments and books. Kitchen was nice to use to make some food if we wanted. Extra fuzzy blankets free to use if you got cold in the night. Check out the stars at night! Also, FREE bike rental. What more could you want? Definitely check out the Co-op store down the street; delicious fresh food after 11am try the taco rice!!! We really loved Iriomote it was so peaceful and special. Our favorite island. Do visit and this hostel will serve you right!!

The rooms were clean and new. Shower amenities and water googles were free to use. There was a refrigerator, was machine, dryer and cooking set available. The staff and owner are super kind and helpful and even took me by car in own time to stargaze.

Even before my trip, I was inexplicably drawn to the Guest house Lala —and staying there for two nights turned out to be the best decision ever! As a solo traveler, I was warmly embraced by Saki, Howa, and Nagi, who went above and beyond to make me feel at home. They kindly arranged transportation for me, shared their delicious homemade curry for dinner, and made sure I never felt alone. Though my planned marine activities were canceled due to weather, the unexpected free day led to one of the most magical afternoons with Howa-chan. It felt like the whole world belonged to just us! And then—surprise!—Saki hosted an impromptu tuna party that night, where everyone laughed, bonded, and created unforgettable memories. Looking back at my photos, I can still hear my own uncontrollable laughter echoing from that joy-filled evening. Thank you, everyone in Lala, for the warmth, spontaneity, and connection that made my stay so special. I’ll cherish these memories forever and can’t wait to return someday.

1.9 km from Tabaga Beach, MAETAKAYA しまんちゅ is a recently renovated property set in Ishigaki Island and offers air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi and private parking. The property is around 18 km from Yaeyama Museum, 23 km from Tamatorizaki Observation Point and less than 1 km from Kabira Bay. The guest house has family rooms. Was very clean and good location looking out over kabira bay. I am an 18 year old solo traveller and the staff made me feel at home. The hostel is owned by mother and son and I had a private room and was fed breakfast every morning. Easy to get bus to different beaches/ waterfalls on google maps. They even booked restaurants for me, gave me good diving recommendations and the son - Takashi drove me to the city centre as there were no cabs available due to the triathlon event going on. I will definitely be coming back to this hostel as I had a lovely time. It’s in the quieter area of Ishigaki although I came before the touristy season starts so that’s probably why. But lots to do and everyone I met was so kind. Felt safe walking around alone at night and everyone was always happy to help me!
