Thank you so much.

Situated in Kaminoyama in the Yamagata region, Snowfall Meteor 飛雪流星 has a garden. It is located 2.2 km from Zao Onsen Ski Resort and provides luggage storage space. The guest house features family rooms. A lovely and heartwarming place to stay for a winter getaway. The couple that owns this business made us feel like family. Mao and Qu are so kind and welcoming. They treated us like family. They picked us up from the bus station, drove us to a wonderful dinner location (which they recommended), drove us to the ski resort, and helped with all our luggage. I was so happy to meet them and talk with them. The room is just as warm as the owners. The floors are heated and the beds are very comfortable. I wish I could’ve stayed longer.

Featuring a 24-hour front desk, this property also has a family-friendly restaurant and a picnic area. The guest house also provides free WiFi, free private parking and facilities for disabled guests. The owner is welcoming and enthusiastic. The meals were home-cooked, and quite delightful. The owner helped us facilitate a side trip in the area, very kindly. It's a remote rural location, which has its own beauty.

Set in Tsuruoka, 24 km from Kamo Aquarium, Shukubo Daishinbo has a garden, parking on-site and rooms with free WiFi access. It is located 46 km from Shinjo Station and offers luggage storage space. The guest house features family rooms. A flawless experience of a traditional pilgrimage guesthouse. Comfy room, great bath and exceptional food prepared by the lovely owners. And it was great to have an Introduction into Yamabushi and the traditional prayer in the morning. The location is perfect to tackle the more than 2000 steps up Mt. Haguro.

For guests with children, the guest house provides an indoor play area. A ski pass sales point, ski storage space and a ski shuttle are all featured at Yamagata Zao Pension Aplon Stage, and guests can go skiing in the surroundings. This is a great pension run by a lovely family. The husband picked us up at the bus station and drove us to the pension and also took us to the slopes in the morning. They gave us a coupon for renting gear and a map explaining the different onsen options around town. Their English is pretty limited, but they are happy to use Google translate. Also, it was not a big deal, but I think it is important for foreign guests to be aware that ski culture in Japan sort of assumes you are eating dinner at your accommodation. We did not know this and did not book dinner at the hotel. Most restaurants in town were fully booked with reservations (although there is a convenience store with good takeaway food), so try to book dinner at the hotel or make a dinner reservation somewhere well in advance. We were very luck and managed to make a reservation at the Mongolian lamb place Kasheru for the second night and that was amazing. But we saw restaurants turning people away repeatedly because everywhere in town was full. Also, the family will not pick you up by car any later that 6:45 pm (perfectly reasonable) and the public ski shuttles don't run on weekdays, so you need to pre-book a taxi if dinner will end later than that (which it probably will since most restaurants open at 6 pm). And there are not a lot of taxis and no Uber. I wish I had realized all of this up front, but that was our own ignorance and our stay was great regardless. Again, this is just the local ski culture and not the hotel's fault. It's just helpful information for future guests.

Situated in Murayama, Yamagata region, Yamagata Guesthouse山形ゲストハウス is set 500 metres from Murayama Station. The accommodation features a shared kitchen and free WiFi throughout the property.

The area is popular for hiking, and bike hire is available at Yamagata Guesthouse山形ゲストハウス. Lovely owners and staff, super helpful too. The guesthouse has a great atmosphere, a separate women’s dorm is available, the concept of being in a community space of an old school building is really cool. There is also a pizza place that makes rather phenomenal pizza for the middle of nowhere, Japan. 😌

All units are fitted with a microwave, fridge, a kettle, a shower, a hair dryer and a desk. Featuring a shared bathroom with a bath and slippers, units at the guest house also boast free WiFi. The units are equipped with heating facilities. The man who lives in this house was perhaps the kindest person I have ever met on my travels. The place is very simple, and you get what you pay for. I thought it was pretty comfortable and the room was quite big. For the price, I think it is really good but it is quite an old house and tough to get to. But I was very grateful to the host, he drove me all the way to the station for no charge as I had lost my wallet and he let me sleep in until whenever I wanted. He was a very lovely man and I hope he gets a lot of business!
