Our hosts were lovely, and gave us some great recommendations, as well as organising a fantastic safari tour for us to the nearby Kadulla National Park (where we saw hundreds of animals, including Elephants). The location is easy, just a 5 minute walk to the Ancient City. There’s also some great places to eat nearby - special mention to Mr.Punsiri's Kitchen which was delicious. The room was light and airy, and we had our own balcony to sit on which was great in the evenings. Overall we had a great time and would love to come back.

New Haven Polonnaruwa has been, by far, the best guesthouse I've been in my whole trip. The place is brand new, extremely comfortable and clean. It is also decorated with good taste. The exterior area, still under construction, is spaceous, and has a lot of possibilities. It has a traditional kitchen built in clay, and an area to have breakfast/lunch/dinner very cozy and nice. Congratulations to the chef! Food is so good! The owner, Iran, puts a lot of love on the project. Also he has shown me his amazing paddy field, we've collected coconuts together and do not worry if the place doesn't have a swimming pool (yet), because he took me to a canal for a nice swim very near from the place.

At Villa Ravichini, the family-friendly restaurant is open for dinner, lunch and high tea and serves Asian cuisine. The guesthouse is close to the main sites. Ravi makes delicious breakfast with lots of fresh fruits. He even made us a takeaway breakfast when we had to leave early for elephant safari. Ravi organized bikes for us to use to see the ruins. He also set up an elephant safari with an excellent guide, Shiron. He was knowledgeable and showed us some incredible birds. He had a knack for getting us in the right spots for elephant viewing and was respectful to give the elephants space. Highly recommend a trip with him. We also recommend the morning trip as he said in the afternoons sometimes there are 200 jeeps!

The apartments are located close to the sights, the lake and shops, but far enough from the busy main street. The host was very attentive and willing to help us with anything and completely arranged a safari for us, including transportation. He also lent us bikes, which we used to ride around the lake one day and the next day to ride through the historical ruins. We spent 3 nights in the villa and it was a wonderful experience that we highly recommend to everyone.
