There was noone else staying the night we went so it was very very nice but it would have been lovely anyway. There is also a very cute friendly cat called Taco, which was just the cherry on top. One of my favourite stays in NZ so far.

Shipwreck Bay Beach is 1.2 km from the lodge. This was our second stay in this lodge and for a very good reason. It has a very good vibe and is excellently managed and very clean.

Guest rooms in Mangawhai Lodge are fitted with a flat-screen TV and a hairdryer. We had a lovely stay at Mangawhai Lodge. It's located at the top of a hill and has outstanding views. Jeanette our host was absolutely lovely and made it feel like we were staying with family. Breakfast was fantastic and freshly cooked each day with the choice of continental with yummy fresh fruit salad as an added bonus or a eggs, bacon and such. The lodge is not right in town center, but it's a short 15 walk to get to the cafes and restaurants. It's also within 10 to 1 hour drive to many awesome experiences and places. So you can see beautiful beaches and go surfing near by, do walking routes and explore cliffs, forrest and waterfalls or even a little city life in Whangarei.
