I chose a room on the street side because it was brighter and the noise wasn’t too bad with the windows closed. The rooftop terrace overlooking the city had plenty of tables and good WiFi, it was a lovely spot to get some work done.

Set in a refurbished mansion with charming colonial style architecture, La Casa de Melgar is set in Arequipa’s historical district. Guests can relax in the garden or in the central courtyard with a stone fountain. Wi-Fi is free. Staff were exceptionally friendly. They kindly offered to hold our bags when we were off doing Colca Canyon hike and even upgraded our room free of charge. The Hotel itself is a gorgeous building with beautiful gardens. Everything was very clean and the breakfasts were delicious. On the morning we left for our hike at 3am the staff had to go breakfast bags prepared to keep us going also.
