We were offered a upgrade at a good rate and had a really superb view of San Francisco. Despite many homeless people within two blocks of the hotel the area still seemed very safe contrary to what we had been told before arriving.

This downtown San Francisco hotel is 1 block from Union Square and the Hallidie Plaza, which features a cable car stop.
