The place has a great atmosphere with the pool, the living spaces and people hanging around.The hostel is neither too big or too small, the perfect balance between social/lively and quiet at night. As a solo traveler, it was easy to meet new people to chat with, to go surfing or to go out. The staff is very friendly and it was nice to arrange surfing lessons directly from the hostel (I ended up going everyday...). The surf lessons with our instructor Fifo was fun and his feedback helped me to improve a lot!

The fact that i ended up extending my stay at Mai Ke Kai to over twice longer than initially planned tells it all! I had such a great time, and the place really felt like home from the very first moment. I was so comfortable there that I could have stayed forever! I made some friends, took a surf lesson (they offer discounts!) and had such good sleeps in the soft bed! The location is in the heart of Tamarindo yet I saw a monkey jumping on a tree nearby and a humming-bird a few times too! Everything was just beyond perfect. Cannot wait for the next trip in Tamarindo to visit again.

This is one the best places I have stayed in my life. Backpackers has such a welcoming and friendly environment. Even in six days I felt like I was surrounded by family. I met so many incredible people. It was so hard to leave, but one day I will go back. If you are going to take a lesson a surf lesson, do it through Marco's school!

Great room, and meet the basics for an enjoyable stay. The bathroom was clean and comfy, the shower only has cold water which is great for the hot weather in Tamarindo. The beach is at 5-10 minutos walking, and if you rather go in car, there’s is a public parking on the street side. Omar, the host, was amazing and super friendly the whole time that we were there, he was always trying to give us recommendation about what and where to do cool stuff, and every day he asked us how was our night (we stayed 4 nights), as well, gave us free room cleaning two times, changing the bed wearing and towels. On our last night we have recommended us an amazing place to party. He gave us a 5 stars service. THANK YOU OMAR - Andres & Lucia
