Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.

I stayed here for one night while travelling to Skye. Great location - just a short walk into the centre of Fort Augustus - with plenty of free parking. Good facilities with meals/ breakfast available and a bar in the property which gave a good opportunity to meet fellow travellers. I stayed in a four bed dormitory which had its own bathroom/ shower - would have been ideal if travelling in a small group. Great value for money and everything was spotlessly clean! Would definitely recommend.

It's budget accommodation, sharing a room with strangers, so expectations have to be managed. All worked, there was somewhere for my bike, breakfast was more than sufficient, and individual electrical sockets for every bed were useful in these charger-dependent days. There is a bar. Free hot drinks. More relaxed than the typical SYHA hostel.

Group accommodation, a great location and pretty good breakfast. I travelled with my bike which can be locked up in a shed, although the reception is not open 24 hours so getting your bike out is dependent on staff hours. This doesn't really suit if you're trying to get away early. If you're looking for a budget stay with friends this is a great pick.

After staying in self-catering accommodation it was great to be in a hostel with a lot of like-minded people - a woman up from London running a marthon, a group of German climbers, everyone in love with the outdoors - lots of great books for free. We had a good, cheap and hot dinner - my veggie haggis was great - and breakfast set us up for the day. Great location close to Fort Augustus - perfect for seeing Loch Lomond and as a stopover on the way from Skye to Loch Lomond. Friendly laid back atmosphere much appreciated.
