In over 40 years of hosteling, I never arrived at a home stay that served its own destination. The multi-layered “Hike and Chill” sums up the delight of the Moroccan traveler seeking verifiable new terrain to explore. Jamal has created an intoxicating work of art in the old Jewish quarter of Tinghir (made famous by a French documentary) with walls transformed into painted murals by visitors (as a B&B work exchange). Implausibly, this bold expression manages to surpass the vivid red hues of the landscape and blue skies while complementing the authentic home environment of his native Berber culture. Beyond the bonafide “chill” salons and terrace with amazing views — of the town, neighboring palmera and the surrounding Atlas Mountains — Jamal is the perfect host offering outstanding personal service. It was uncanny how, for example, he perceived a need before I was even aware of it, whether it was a visit to the hamam, finding me a djellaba, cautioning me to watch my step in the climb up the terrace, or handing over my eyeglasses that I didn’t even realize I misplaced yet! He also proved to be an excellent guide of a formerly accessible region Morocco frequented by nomads and generally unknown to tourists. The “Hike & Chill” Atlas Mountain excursion into his native terrain unfolded the enigma of the Berbers — an answer to a dream providing a peak experience of unity of land, humanity and spirit.

Charming place in Berberland The auberge: nice berberstyled house, even managed by a berber. The service: warm welcome, kind service 24/7, lovely prepered breakfast, meals and whiskey maroccaine. Laundryservice on demand. Warm shower, heated space for dining and chilling. Jawad, the berber, knows literally everything about the area and answer all questions. The best for me: the talkative cute cat of the house. The place: lovely village with two old kashbas and green fields. Good point to start outings and daytours to places like Todra, Dades, Agoudal or even Imilchil. Gladly come back, inchallah! Bismallah!

Great little place to stay north of the gorge. The staff were very hospitable! Only one of us ate the dinner, but it was very good with good portion size! The pool should be wonderful, but we waited too late in the day to swim and by 7PM, the water was already a bit chilly. We went anyways!! Very much recommended!

Hike and chill is probably the best hostel we stayed in Morocco. Situated in Old Medina it has a lot of charm and beauty.
