I stayed at Balaio Hostel for two weeks, and it was an unforgettable experience! The staff are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable about the island, and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and included. The manager, with their big heart, adds a personal and caring touch that truly makes a difference. The atmosphere is laid-back and relaxed, but it can also be vibrant, especially at night. The hostel strikes a perfect balance between offering peaceful downtime—like lounging in a hammock with a book—and lively social experiences, such as group outings or nights out. Some evenings, the manager or staff even organize activities like beach trips, tours, or BBQ nights, making it easy to connect with others. The facilities are impressive, with a spacious, well-equipped open-air kitchen. While it’s charming and functional, guests should keep in mind it’s open to nature, so being too picky might dampen the experience. The hostel also provides filtered water, air-conditioning in the bedrooms, and lockable lockers, ensuring comfort and security for guests. Wi-Fi worked well, though the connection in my room was spotty. Cleanliness is a clear priority, thanks to the hardworking staff who consistently maintain the hostel's facilities and even went as far as scrubbing out a fridge during my stay. While not all guests excelled at cleaning up after themselves, the staff’s efforts more than compensated. Located about five minutes from the pier, the hostel sits on a quiet street with a peaceful ambiance. The courtyard offers stunning mountain views and is surrounded by lush greenery, adding to its serene vibe. It’s also incredibly safe—both the hostel and the island itself—so much so that guests often left their belongings around without worry. Balaio Hostel is a unique gem that perfectly combines comfort, community, and adventure. Highly recommended!

Hostel Refúgio ligger i Abraão, 400 meter fra Sain't Sebastian-kirken. Der er have og fælles opholdsstue. Overnatningsstedet har døgnåben reception og fælles køkken. Simple but very good. Very nice & clean bedrooms. Great shared spaces. I’d definitely recommend

Bela Casa Quartos e Hostel Ilha Grande ligger i landsbyen Abraão i landsbyen Abraão og tilbyder praktisk indkvartering med gratis WiFi. Abraãos centrum ligger 200 meter fra ejendommen. Everything here was so wonderful, it is half indoors and half outdoors and very pleasant. Great showers, places to hang towels and wet clothes outside, small but functional kitchen, so quiet and peaceful at nighttime and yet still very close to everything in the downtown area. The family is very friendly, the common areas are comfortable and have helpful books for planning trips around the island. There is a water filter so you never have to worry about drinking water or making too much plastic bottle waste. The beds have privacy curtains, the fan for nighttime is strong and comfortable, the lockers all work and everything is very safe here.

I really liked the atmosphere in the common area of the hostel. Gabi is a good host who tries to bring people together. She is also a great cook and we had nice self cooked dinners here. The kitchen is pretty well equipped. The owner is also a lovely woman who stopps by and liked to chat. If you know spanish or a little portugues then you can talk to the hosts. They don't really know english here.

I loved my stay as a Solo traveler! The staff is super friendly and very helpful and I hope to be back soon. They cleaned the bathroom several times during my stay and showed me what was vegan for breakfast. They also helped me book a boat tour and gave me lots of advice on where to go and what to do. The room was silent and I could sleep well as it had both a fan and an AC. Flora, the cat, is a very fluffy and cute addition and we enjoyed many cuddles.

The hosts were super kind and friendly! We would not speak a word in Portuguese but they would always find a way to communicate with as. The facility was clean and cozy.
