The room was well set up; the bed was comfortable, the 2 fans were great and having a mini fridge in the room was very handy. We loved that there were sloths and agouti around the hostel. We also loved Tequila, one of the cats who was super friendly. He brightened our days!

The location is far from Puerto Viejo, of course, but the beach is close (ten minutes by walk), and just a bit further there are three supermarkets and a pharmacy (and you'll find yourself in the main road, pretty easy to do anything). Then, you're staying in a very nice jungle spot. The facilities are great, good kitchen, big rooms (with lockers and plugins). All very clean (you can see how the volunteers are making an effort, they're really great: all the staff is very friendly and helpful). Good common areas with a fantastic atmosphere, very social and easygoing (I would dare say you can actually feel at home: your home in the jungle). Highly recommended :)

At the hostel, all rooms include a patio with a lake view. Every room has a private bathroom with a shower, while certain rooms here will provide you with a balcony and others also provide guests with river views. At Chinitas Eco Lodge the rooms come with air conditioning and a safety deposit box. Chinitas Eco-Lodge is in San Francisco, a quiet village north of Tortuguero. We booked the deluxe queen room: perfect for our family, basic but clean, with good AC, and surprisingly bug-free! Breakfast was tasty, with coffee/tea, fruit, and a hot platter, and there are several wonderful hammocks for relaxing by the river. However, the best part our stay were the people: 1) Ana, one of the owners, was so warm and helpful (and patient with my attempts at basic Spanish) and her staff were equally friendly; and 2) Owen the tour guide was FANTASTIC: he has such passion for conservation, has a a sharp eye for spotting wildlife, and was instrumental in getting us to the right spots for turtle nesting. Strongly recommend booking the morning Canal tour as well as the late night Turtle tour with Owen, and booking the lodge in general if you want a welcoming, authentic experience!
