Despite being a "self service" hostel it doesn't feel impersonal and empty. The staff leaves messages, channels for feedback, makes small gestures for a friendly atmosphere and showing they will be available if you need help. The quality of the beds, toilets, cleanliness etc is a level above the vast majority of hostels. I am usually not a huge fan of "self service hostels" but this one is different. It's also very close to the bus station and not so far from the airport, so very useful if you are just transiting through Tallinn.

Located in Tallinn’s centre, 400 metres from Raekoja Plats, and close to many restaurants and bars, this 16eur - Fat Margaret's features free Wi-Fi, a shared kitchen and a 24-hour reception. I like the atmosphere in this place. We usually travel with our children to sport competitions to Estonia and found this place as a perfect option for us. There everything what needed, simple and comfort. Beds are perfect and I love kitchen in downstairs.

Viru Backpackers Hostel is a small, friendly place on the bustling main street of Tallinn's old town, just around the corner from the Town Hall. Amazing location, friendly staff in both hostels (we left our luggage in another hostel as advised), great building and cozy room. A great stay in a lovely city. I recommend it.
