Located in Yokokura, 4.3 km from Jigokudani Monkey Park, Yamanouchi sekisan chi provides accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a restaurant. In a prime location in the Yudanaka Onsen district, this hostel offers ski-to-door access, as well as a hot spring bath. The property is non-smoking and is set 10 km from Ryuoo Ski Park. Everything was great! It felt like you had your own room while visiting grandma's house. The traditional Japanese style house was very comfortable and cozy and it was a great place to rest after a long day out. All the basic necessities were available, and there was even a complimentary ticket to the onsen nearby. The host lady was very nice and caring, always ready to help if you needed something. Location was also great, a short walk from the nearby train/bus station terminal to get to wherever you need. There is also a convenience store if you need to get snacks, and if you're hungry the host also runs a local Snack Bar Kitchen that you can order food from! Will definitely stay here again when i return!

Guest rooms are equipped with air conditioning, a fridge, a microwave, a kettle, a bidet, a hairdryer and a desk. The rooms at the hostel are fitted with a shared bathroom and bed linen. My party of 5 total stayed only one night when hiking the Magome to Nagiso section of the Nakasendo. Proximity to train station and Nakasendo trail was the original selling point, but we fell in love with the place as soon as our host toured us around. It feels like staying at an artsy bed and breakfast, except you provide the breakfast and you get the entire place to yourself. There's small, delightful touches of personality and hospitality every where you look. We did not want for anything. Our sweet host met us at the front door to enter data from our passports and then gave us a walk through of the building. Two toilets and two showers was perfect for a group of 5. Fridge and other kitchen appliances work great. We listened to the CD disc player on the wall while reading the books and it was a lovely experience. The futons were placed very thoughtfully according to our parties needs. In addition to the trail and train station, there's a grocery store, a historic bridge and a cafe all within a couple minutes walk. The patios were a great hang out spot and we saw monkeys near the river around 7am. Honestly, I wish we had stayed longer but our plans dictated we move on. Next time we will try to book a few more nights so we can explore the area more!

The dinners were great as well and Gaspard is such a kind and nice host. The lodge is located a bit out of town but there is a good shuttle system to take you to town/slopes. I only stayed a couple of nights but it feels like I was there much longer ✨

1166 Backpackers is located in Nagano, within less than 1 km of Zenkoji Temple and 2.5 km of Nagano Station. With a shared lounge, the 1-star hostel has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi. The accommodation provides a shared kitchen, and luggage storage for guests. I will be agreeing with most of the reviews for this hostel. This is an excellent place to stay for considerate travelers. The staff are all warm and kind, and they go above and beyond as hosts and local guides. The place also seems to draw the most friendly and respectful travelers as well. Everything was clean and well-maintained, and no one was messy or obnoxious. In the old japanese house, it felt like a home away from home. Just remember that this is a Japanese style accommodation, so don't expect too many western style amenities, e.g. some spaces are small, and the bathroom can be cold at night.
