My party of 5 total stayed only one night when hiking the Magome to Nagiso section of the Nakasendo. Proximity to train station and Nakasendo trail was the original selling point, but we fell in love with the place as soon as our host toured us around. It feels like staying at an artsy bed and breakfast, except you provide the breakfast and you get the entire place to yourself. There's small, delightful touches of personality and hospitality every where you look. We did not want for anything. Our sweet host met us at the front door to enter data from our passports and then gave us a walk through of the building. Two toilets and two showers was perfect for a group of 5. Fridge and other kitchen appliances work great. We listened to the CD disc player on the wall while reading the books and it was a lovely experience.The futons were placed very thoughtfully according to our parties needs. In addition to the trail and train station, there's a grocery store, a historic bridge and a cafe all within a couple minutes walk. The patios were a great hang out spot and we saw monkeys near the river around 7am. Honestly, I wish we had stayed longer but our plans dictated we move on. Next time we will try to book a few more nights so we can explore the area more!

Pick up and drop off service was great and really useful. Also provided good tips and recommendations for food, skiing and other activities.

The staff are pleasant and very accommodating. The general vibe was exceptional, including amongst other guests. I’m a solo female traveler and stayed in the mixed dormitory but I had 0 discomfort. The host runs several shuttles in the mornings to drop off patrons in the morning, so we can then take the town shuttle to get to different ski resorts etc, as well as evening shuttles to pick you up from town and take you back to the guesthouse.

They were very helpful with signposting to relevant locations such some of the best food spots and how to get to the snow monkey park. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend it to anyone.

There are large sofas and a big TV in the lounge area, making it a perfect place to kick back and relax after spending a day on the ski slopes or hiking the trails. The property offers free luggage and ski storage services, and offers discount lift tickets. Laundry facilities can be used for free. The room is cozy and clean with a picturesque view outside. Further, the service is exceptional. The staff are nice and attentive to your needs.

The staff was wonderful and helped us wherever they could. The room was exactly as we hoped. It's an old house, we slept on tatami. It has a shared kitchen and bathing facility which is dated but does what it has to do. Breakfast is additional, but worth the money. At the end, the owner even drove us to the railway station. It is not so far from the snow monkeys which we did not go to, but walked in the neighbourhood. Absolutely wonderful.
