The owner is super sweet and makes tasty cheap meals if you don't feel like going out. Location is perfect, next to the station (and bus stop for Snow Monkeys, ski resort) as well as a convenient Lawson. There's water, tea and coffee and a fridge for guests. You get a free ticket to the local onsen! And Koharu the dog will take endless head scratches!

My party of 5 total stayed only one night when hiking the Magome to Nagiso section of the Nakasendo. Proximity to train station and Nakasendo trail was the original selling point, but we fell in love with the place as soon as our host toured us around. It feels like staying at an artsy bed and breakfast, except you provide the breakfast and you get the entire place to yourself. There's small, delightful touches of personality and hospitality every where you look. We did not want for anything. Our sweet host met us at the front door to enter data from our passports and then gave us a walk through of the building. Two toilets and two showers was perfect for a group of 5. Fridge and other kitchen appliances work great. We listened to the CD disc player on the wall while reading the books and it was a lovely experience.The futons were placed very thoughtfully according to our parties needs. In addition to the trail and train station, there's a grocery store, a historic bridge and a cafe all within a couple minutes walk. The patios were a great hang out spot and we saw monkeys near the river around 7am. Honestly, I wish we had stayed longer but our plans dictated we move on. Next time we will try to book a few more nights so we can explore the area more!

Multiple shuttles to either the main bus terminal (where all the busses to the resorts go from), or if there's a bunch of people going to a close resort, you get dropped to the door. Awesome.

I was initially skeptical about staying at Tsugaike seeing how the "main" resorts Happo-one and Hakuba 47 are quite a distance away. However, Hai Lodge was everything that previous reviewers had said. Tsugaike is a wonderful resort with many different terrains that would satisfy most people. The place was very well-maintained and clean. Josh and Victoria were wonderful hosts. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Hai Lodge and will definitely stay again next time!

Located just a 10-minute walk from Happo One Ski Resort’s gondola, Morino Lodge offers cosy accommodation with spacious guestrooms and a modern lounge. Definitely must go for the pizza!!
