There are tons of common areas and always something going on: sunrise hikes to Pidurangala, secret sunset spots, lake swims, safaris… you’ll never be bored. And the team is always around – they truly care about the people staying here, and it shows. The price is kind of ridiculous (in a good way) – it even includes breakfast! Lunch and dinner are cooked and shared together too, if you want and the food is next-level delicious. It’s close to the road so getting around is super easy – tuk tuks from the guys, bikes, scooters or just calling a PickMe. I ended up extending my stay longer than planned and only left because I had a flight but I’ll 100% be back!!

Kani is extremely friendly and kind. He did so many things for me!! I also admire his way of thinking—he truly values encounters and connections with people. You can see it not only in his words, but also in his actions. Thank you for the precious experience in Sigiriya!! Highly recommended!!! Some people may think it’s a bit far from Sigiriya Rock, but actually the entrance is on the west side, and I believe this is one of the few places within walking distance around there.

The units at Funk Bunks - Sigiriya feature air conditioning and a desk. Everything was perfect! It was such a wonderful place to start our trip. The food was absolutely delicious, and the rooms were super comfortable. The bar was such a cozy and fun spot to hang out, and the staff were incredibly friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful. The cooking class is also an absolute must-do and highly recommended. We’ll definitely come back again!

The place is clean and comfortable, breakfast was always delicious, and the one dinner I had there turned out to be the best meal of my trip — tasty, generous, and great quality. What really made it special was the people. Maliya was so kind and helpful, always there if I needed anything. He even took me to a beautiful sunset spot nearby and walked me to the bus stop when I checked out. Those small gestures really meant a lot and made the stay unforgettable. Highly recommend this place!

All units at the accommodation include air conditioning and a safety deposit box. Lovely stay. This is a newly opened hostel perfect for seeing Sigiriya! It’s only about a 10 minute tuk tuk ride to the rock and about 10-15 minutes walking to some restaurants and shops. This is the cleanest hostel I stayed at in Sri Lanka. You can smell the freshness in the bathrooms and the towels smell so clean. The rooms also have air conditioning. Above all, the family is so personable and kind. The breakfast is also affordable and was so tasty - the best breakfast I had in my one month visit in Sri Lanka. 100% recommend :)

We unexpectedly found ourselves in the heart of the Sri Lankan jungle at Hakuna Matata Hostel — and for just £5 a night with breakfast included. Yes, five! My teenage daughter couldn’t help but quip, “Mum, you make us look broke.” But this isn’t being broke — this is backpacking at its finest: affordable, raw, and bursting with adventure. Surrounded by towering trees, the sounds of birds, and monkeys rustling through jackfruit trees, this place is truly a hidden gem. I’ll admit, I only booked one night to test the waters, but with a perfect 10/10 rating from travellers across the globe (not just locals), I took a chance. I'm so glad I did. We had to reroute our entire trip due to heavy monsoon rains and limited accommodation options elsewhere. What began as a backup plan turned into the highlight of our journey. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and sincerity: “While you stay with us, you are part of our family.” And they meant it. No inflated tourist prices, no rehearsed smiles — just genuine people and heartfelt hospitality. The rooms are simple but clean and cosy with mosquito nets, and the atmosphere is something you can’t buy: peace, community, and a true slice of authentic Sri Lanka. We've stayed in far more expensive places on this trip, but none have matched the soul we found here. In a country where tourist traps can leave you feeling like a walking wallet, this place was refreshingly honest. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Would I come back? I extended another 3 nights. For £5 a night? It’s not about saving money — it’s about gaining perspective. This is the kind of rich that stays with you.

Channa arranged a cooking class for me with a local lady and offered pick up services with his Tuk Tuk. The breakfast made by sister was really good each morning with different traditional Sri Lanka food! Really peaceful place with only a 20min easy stroll to the town. Really loved my time here❤️

Staying at Hello Aliya feels less like a hostel and more like staying at an old friend’s house. The owner Isu is incredibly kind and respectful. The hostel is brand new so everything is incredibly clean. It is situated just off the main road. 2 minute walk to the bus stop, 10 mins walk to the entrance of Lion’s Rock, and a 10 minute drive to Pidurangala peak. I really enjoyed my stay there. As a solo woman, I felt safe and welcomed. The breakfast is lovely and the staff even taught me how to play carrom. After one month of traveling Sri Lanka, this is by far my favorite hostel.
