There are private and shared chalet rooms. Each room has a private bathroom, TV, heating and kettle. Barnyard Backpackers Te Anau provides a large communal kitchen and BBQ facilities and pool table. I’ve never slept so well in a hostel before. The pillows, mattresses and beds are so comfortable (no bunk beds but five sturdy wooden single beds so nothing squeaks or moves). Every dorm is a hut with a bathroom and from there you walk a hundred meters up to the main building: a barn with a kitchen and a cozy common area. The kitchen is well equipped and gets properly cleaned daily. The best part: it’s surrounded by deer farms and in March and April you can hear the deer and elks roar all day and night long. It’s pretty special. I absolutely loved it. At night you can see the stars as the next town is a ten minute drive away. It’s situated between Te Anau and Lake Manapouri. A beautiful area and an area where they filmed a couple of Lord of the rings scenes. In the morning and the evening you could see the fog when the sun rose and set over the hills. Yes, like someone wrote, it’s like Heidi. It’s close to beautiful lakes, mountains, rivers… I think it’s one of my most favourite places in New Zealand. I stayed for five nights and only left because I still wanted to see other places in Nee Zealand before my holiday was over. I could have stayed so much longer. I absolutely fell in love with this place and had a great time with the people there. Thank you so much!

Additional facilities at Te Anau Lakefront Backpackers include a movie room and indoor and outdoor kitchen facilities, including a BBQ. Laundry facilities and on-site storage are available. We were a group of 3 using a quad room before a hike. This was perfect for us. There were plugs to charge devices by each bed. There was a good kitchen. Nice atmosphere - everyone I think we met was going for a hike.

The property is around 1.2 km from Te Anau Glow Worm Caves, 2.3 km from Ivon Wilson Park and 2.6 km from Lake Henry. The accommodation provides a shared kitchen and a tour desk for guests. The hostel had a really cosy vibe, with a big lounge area and big kitchen. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The dorm rooms had lockers and it was possible to have electronics charging inside them. The bathrooms were clean. Location was amazing, very close to the lake front and only a short walk from the supermarket.

You can play table tennis and darts at the hostel, and the area is popular for hiking and cycling. The place is amazing! It is so clean and comfy, surrounded by nature, and the check-in was easy, even late at night. I definitely want to visit again!
