Barnyard Backpackers Te Anau offers accommodation on spacious grounds with spectacular mountain views. Free WiFi and private on site parking is available. We loved the Barnyard! This place is a peaceful haven, surrounded by deers and scenic views. The room was large and comfortable, hot shower excellent, the common areas inclusive of kitchen spacious and cosy. And Nina was a lovely host. We loved our 4 nights there and wished we could stay longer. Will definitely return!

Set in park-like grounds on the shores of Lake Te Anau, 5 minutes' walk from the town centre, Te Anau Lakefront Backpackers has both mountain and lake views from the majority of the rooms. loved our semi private room. It was like a suite with 2 bedroom. Location was right by lake and walkable to main street. 5 minute walk to glow worm boat launch.

When you arrive and realise this is exactly the kind of place you’ve always wanted to try, you know you’re in for something special. We were warmly welcomed, with everything explained to us — including a heads-up about road conditions for the next morning (very thoughtful!). If you’re heading to Milford Sound and need a place to stay for two nights, this is perfect. It’s like camping in style — warm, cosy, and surrounded by nature. The peace is amazing, and waking up to that lake view in the morning… wow, pure magic. My tip: stop by a supermarket beforehand and bring something to cook here. You won’t want to leave what I call a truly magical place (for those who value nature and experience over five-star luxury). I can only say thank you for everything.

All the facilities worked as they should. A very cozy, retro property that has plenty of charm. We really enjoyed our stay here, and Nathan was extremely friendly and helpful. We highly recommend this place.
