I had a wonderful time at the Riverstone Lodge! Sandra was the best host, always helpful and cheerful. The common rooms and kitchen were very clean and comfortable, and it felt like living in a flat share with other travelers. The location was also great, close to the town center, and a perfect starting point for the Tongariro crossing or fishing.

Hotel was in a very good location where all the facilities like Petrol station, Grocery shopping within walking distance. The shared kitchen is maintained well and rules are clearly written for everyone to follow. Pick up option for Tongariro crossing shuttle was at their doorstep which was helpful.

We loved this place! There's a lot of shared areas. Big kitchen, lots of tables to eat, the games room with a pool and a cinema! Amaazing! The beds were very confortables. Big space also in the toilets&showers! Super warm water. All was more than expected! Internet works perfectly everywhere (very rare in NZ)

Big hostel but the manager keeps the capacity limited, so that your dorm is never full - max. 2-3 people per dorm!
Cute cat and dog onsite.
I could borrow a bicycle for free!
You can also book Tongariro transport very cheaply.
The best WiFi I've encountered in a long time. If you need to do something online, this is your place!
Ideally located accomodation for hikers/trampers. recommended for backpackers or to get some rest after a long trail. large kitchen, hot showers, Snooker in the games room.

You feel just at home here, you meet such friendly people. Sandra (the host/owner) is so nice. She loves to chat and help you with making plans in the erea. She helped me book the tongariro crossing(mordor/mt doom) and was super easy. It is one of the best hostels I had.

Very convivial and friendly atmosphere in the spacious kitchen. The location is great, very close to the Tongariro Alpine crossing. There is a nice little pub right beside it! It was so nice to have a family room with a private bathroom! We can hop on a shuttle right outside the youth hostel.

Honestly, the best hostel I've ever stayed at! The owners were the most welcoming, loving and caring people. They made sure to talk to everyone, they even remembered the names of every single person who stayed there at the moment. The whole place was super clean and well kept. Kitchen had everything you need for cooking. The living room is amazing to hang out, watch tv, play games or get to know the other guests (and make some new friends!). Would highly recommend staying there. You would not be disappointed!

I stayed to experience the pods. They are brilliant. All your stuff fits in ,no clatter in the room. No disturbing people with a bunk bed noise or movement There is a light,PowerPoint and USB port inside. Blind to close it off. Steps no ladder. Nice courtyard with grass and numerous seating options. Central location and big car park next to the backpacker. Enough hobs and sinks in the kitchen. Nice to see compost bin in the kitchen for a food waste and recycling.
