The banks of the Touw River are a 5-minute walk from Fairy Knowe Backpackers Lodge. Free private parking is available on site. I have stayed in hundreds of backpacker's lodges around the world, but this one is the best. The location is unrivaled - you are surrounded by stunning nature. There are milkwood trees that are hundreds of years old and many beautiful birds have chosen this part of the indigenous forest as their home. The staff are truly wonderful and make everyone feel like family. The bar often has live musicians and the accommodation building is a 150 year old Victorian gem. There are also private chalets with en suite bathrooms. There is a spectacular national park within walking distance and kayaks can be rented to explore the nearby river. This place has it all, but the unique atmosphere is why I'll definitely be back.

With free WiFi, this 3-star hostel offers a shared kitchen and luggage storage space. The accommodation provides airport transfers, while a car rental service is also available. Everything was ok for the price. But the real kicker was the lady in charge, Debbie. She went above and beyond consistently to give me the best possible experience in Plettenberg Bay. There were some misunderstandings with management about the room pricing, which she handled admirably. Also, she gave me a lift when I really needed one, asking for nothing in return.

Guests are offered traditional African dishes in the restaurant of Tube 'n Axe Backpackers. Special diet menus and packed lunches can be requested. Guests of the hostel can use the free barbecue facilities on site. The outside hot tube, warm up with wood.. amazing! And the bar next to a nice evening fire! They give me a better room than the one I made the reservation!

The location is slightly off the beaten track but you get an amazing view from the bar/restaurant. Definitely worth it, if you don’t mind getting a cab down for meals and activities. Excellent value for money.
