Hi, I’m Carmel and I love having guests stay at Ferny Hill Retreat. Sharing the beauty of Emerald and the Dandenong Ranges is a genuine pleasure. Born and raised in Melbourne, I caught the travel bug after completing university and have done a fair bit of globe-trotting since. I'm into all sorts of things: gardening, reading, meditation, interior design, nature, writing, country drives, travel, art galleries, social media, movies, geeky stuff, dining out, friends, family and making a mess in my art studio. Emerald is such a beautiful place it's known as 'the gem of the hills'. It's a stunning little village in the Dandenong Ranges, brimming with country charm and hospitality. Emerald Lake Park is a premiere attraction with BBQs, playgrounds, a pool, paddle boats, walking tracks, fishing, Environment Centre, model railway, café and a railway station for Puffing Billy. The famous Puffing Billy passes through the township and has three stations in Emerald—Emerald, Nobelius and Lakeside (in the park). The Emerald to Cockatoo recreational trail is ideal for walkers and cyclists. The trail is a comfortable 2.5hr walk that wanders through natural forest settings. Closer to home, you can take a 10-minute stroll from Ferny Hill Retreat to a little known lake where you can feed the ever-hungry ducks.
