Nestled on the banks of the Tasmanian East Coast, Swan River Sanctuary blends harmoniously into the landscape of the surrounding paddocks and banks of the Swan River. Offering a unique and secluded escape into nature, where panoramic views and luxurious design come together for the perfect getaway. Completely secluded, with no other homes in sight, Swan River Sanctuary is a place to truly unwind and immerse yourself in the serenity of the surroundings. The trickling river, the black cockatoos in the surrounding trees, the farm animals distant enough for peace, but close enough for an experience. Sweetly complimented by the wood fired sauna, take the plunge into the fresh river waters after a riveting sauna session. The sauna is an extra cost to be booked direct on request. As you step inside the home, you’re immediately greeted by the warm embrace of natural light, bouncing off the Macrocarpa wooden walls and up to the vaulted ceiling. The soothing sounds of the riverbank fill the space, drawing you in to the breathtaking views that stretch in all directions. Every detail has been considered from the stunning abalone shell wall to the magnificent bohemian chandelier. On the ground floor, you’ll find two comfortable queen bedrooms, designed for rest and relaxation. A spacious bathroom with luxurious bathroom awaits just down the hall, offering a quiet retreat after a day of exploring the East Coast. For those who love to cook, the chef’s kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to cook up your bounty of produce collected from the region, or right here from the Swan River (fishing rods provided). Admire the burning open fire whilst indulging in your meal over the 160 year old dining table, which conveniently converts to a pool table for the evening events. Upstairs, the master suite awaits – a sanctuary of its own. The king size bedroom overlooks the mountain range, paddocks and river, able to be appreciated from bed or the in-room stone bath.

A stay at Swan River Sanctuary isn’t complete without a swim in the Swan River. There are two platform / jetties on the river. The first is to the south of the house or the front door side. This is where we have left some water craft for you to use. There are two kayak's and two-person canoe and their respective paddles. There is another jetty to the north of the house that you will see when looking through the large windows. This is a brilliant place to swim from. It is deep enough for any kind of water entry and there is a ladder to climb back up onto. It is awesome paddling up the river to the North through the remnant Melaluca Forest and under the white gums, birds and fish everywhere. There is so much bird life that use the river like a highway. Keep your eyes on the tree perches and in the air, you are very likely to spot a White Bellied Sea Eagle or another special Tasmania species. There is a field guide on the coffee table to help you identify what you see. Riversdale is a working farm. The Swan River Sanctuary lays at the heart of Riversdale Farm. We encourage our guests to take a walk around the farm, just be careful of electric fences and leaving any gates as you found them.
