The Petrus Wittebrood Hoeve is a historic farm at the entrance of the Flemish Ardennes and the Zwalm region. It is located on an property of seven hectares of meadows, forests and a small river. We also live in the 17th century farm, the South Wing of the farm was converted into a luxury self-catering resort in 2003 and completely renovated in 2016.
We offer you a spacious house and a large private garden. There is an unhindered view on the MunkBosbeek Valley. We have two rental formulas: up to 8 persons, or 8 to 12 people.
The Petrus Wittebrood Hoeve is situated in a beautiful region and has many hiking and cycling opportunities. The historic and trendy city of Ghent is near (20 km), Brussels, Bruges and the coast area are easily accessible. But many guests like to spend most of their day at the domain.
The “Petrus Wittebrood Hoeve" is located on a 7 hectare estate. You can make a walk of 1 km following the red arrows, without leaving the domain of the Petrus Wittebrood farm.
The historic farm with beautiful courtyard is at the street side. On the East side of the farm is the (private) cottage garden from the owners. The holiday homes were built In the south barn and these have their own large, south facing garden.
The terrain is sloping down, where the ' Munkbos ' brook is located. In the Munkbosbeek valley you see our donkeys and sheep and grazing. On another part of the meadows graze dozens of cows of a farmer.
The Petrus Wittebrood farm is an old, closed Flemish 'square farm'. Upon entering the large entrance gate you see the main house on the east side, the other 3 sides are made up by (former) barns. The farm dates from around 1670, so it is approx. 350 years old. In the course of time the farm belonged to the abbey of Ninove and to the St Bavo's abbey in Ghent. The living space of the farm –where we live- was rebuilt in the 18th century and has since then kept its outer appearance. The Petrus Wittebrood farm has been put on the preliminary list of monuments to preserve.
On the country roads near the farm you can take endless walks and cycle tours. You can walk to the water mills near the Zwalm river, to the beautiful Schelde valley, to idyllic villages. Go ahead, there are plenty of places to eat, to have a drink and to take a rest in between.
Cycling is an infinite pleasure here. The terrain is gently sloping, but not too heavy. This is a very nice region for a family bicycle outing! A shorter walk near the farm is equally attractive: the walk by the donkeys' corner (3.5 km) and the walk by the old brickworks (3 km) offer a nice view of the immediate surroundings.
Do not forget to go to Ghent to take advantage of this pleasant town, both trendy and full of history. Many outdoor cafes and restaurants invite you, everywhere there are shops, exhibitions and museums that draw your attention. Also check out the open tourist boat that sails through the centre of Ghent, from the water you have another wonderful view.
