The spitz ’Lucie’ ship was built in 1955. During 58 years, ’Lucie’ was driving cargo through whole Western-Europe. Halfway her career, the shippers son and his wife took over the ownership of the barge. Begin of 2014, ‘Lucie’ took her well deserved retirement and transferred to her new owners. The last trip as the original barge was on the 16th of February 2014 from the city ‘Evergem’ to the city ‘Harelbeke’ for the big construction works. The first trip as the new houseboat was on the 24th of July from the city ‘Harelbeke’; to the city ‘Izegem’. From then on, ‘Lucie’ would start a new life as a house for permanent living. At the very start of the transformation, it was already clear that the original shippershouse would be kept as much as possible in its original state. This place is so authentic that it would be unforgiveable to change it. This living in completely separated from the main house. The entrance is via the steering cabine, where you can image how it feels to drive this ship. From this cabin, the decent via the small stairs into the original shippers house.

Our B&B is located in area of the city's Izegem (5'), Roeselare (10'), Bruges (30'), Kortrijk (20'), Ieper (30'), Oostend (30'), Gent (45') and Lille (45'). All cities which have much to offer to the foreign visitors. Our place is just a mile from the freeway so very convenient to lauch for a trip to a next city every and come back the same day. Our place is away from city centers and feels as a safe location. You can park you car(s) in front of you window. We, owners of the ship, build their house in the former cargo of ship and are living their permanently. After welcoming you, we will stay at this location and be avialable for you. you will not feel alone. Izegem and Roeselare are very nearby and offer the day-to-day shops, restaurants and a swimming pool. Do visit one of the breweries 'Bierkasteel' (Ingelmunsterstraat 46 in Izegem) or 'Rodenbach' (Spanjestraat 133 in Roeselare). You can do a tour and buy your favourite beers in the shops. Bruges is the Venice of the North where you can do a romantic walk, boat tour or horse tour. Cheap and convenient parking is the underground 't Zand' ('t Zand in Bruges); by foot you can reach the old city center where you find find the 'beer wall' (Wollestraat 53 in Bruges). Kortrijk, Ieper and Lille have nice historic centers with many musea about the Middle ages (Kortrijk, Gent, Lille) or musea about the World Wars(Ieper). When you like the sea for swimming or walking or shopping, visit Oostende. Our recommendation is Bruges old city center and the region of Ieper where you should visit the 'Menenpoort' (Menenstraat in Ieper), the 'dodengang' (Ijzerdijk 62 in Diksmuide), the 'IJzertoren' (Ijzerdijk 49 in Diksmuide) and the 'commandobunker' (Lettingstraat in Heuvelland). Too much to visit in one day ! For a quick affordable dinner with the kids, find 'De 5-wege' (vijfwegenstraat 56 in Izegem), only 5 minutes away. The city centers of the cities describe will provide you a variety of all different restaurants, you will find a selection in our cabin entrance.
