Saariselän Kuukkeli is a family-owned company that has been operating for 40 years. We have been accommodating travelers visiting Saariselkä for 20 years. Most of our properties are located in and around the center of Saariselkä, but we also have accommodation options elsewhere in Lapland, including Ivalo, Inari, Vuotso, and Sodankylä. We offer accommodation in every price category. What attracts customers to our properties is their uniqueness—each location is one of a kind, regardless of price. Our signature feature is our log cabins made of kelo wood. These kelo houses provide an authentic atmosphere, but without feeling outdated, as they are well-furnished and fully equipped. Kuukkeli is a brand with a vision to fulfill all the wishes and needs of our guests. In addition to accommodation, we also operate "Kuukkeli Shopping Center" in Saariselkä. This shopping center is the gem of Saariselkä. Within our shopping center, you will find our new elegant restaurant, Bistro & Cafe Kuukkeli, a gift shop called Kuukkeli Shop, an outdoor equipment and clothing store named Kesport, our accommodation reception, the rental service Kuukkeli Rental Shop, an activity sales office, luggage storage and transport service Taxi Kuukkeli. Additionally, we house Saariselkä's only grocery store, K-Market Saariselkä. With everything under one roof, you’ll find everything you need for your holiday! We offer a wide range of activities, including northern lights hunting, cycling tours, snowshoeing adventures, and an entirely new concept called the Sauna World. This unique experience, inspired by a beloved Finnish tradition, grants you access to a sauna house featuring two large electric saunas, each with separate dressing rooms and wash facilities, a spacious indoor heated swimming pool, and a cozy lounge area with a fireplace. On the back terrace, you’ll find the legendary smoke sauna, a heated hot tub, and a refreshing cold plunge pool.

Kuukkeli Log Houses Aurora Resort is located in the Laanila forest area, 4 km from the center of Saariselkä. The area has little light pollution, which is a perfect opportunity to experience the magic of Northern Lights. All the buildings in the resort are Lappish style log houses, built from rare kelo wood. Kuukkeli Sauna World is available for free to Aurora Resort guests every day from 9 pm to 11 pm. The spa building has two electric saunas, showers and changing rooms, separately for men and women. There is also a common lounge with a fireplace area and an indoor swimming pool. Behind the sauna house there is a Smoke Sauna, Landscape Sauna, from where you can admire winter forest landscapes and see authentic Lappish reindeer. You might even have a chance to witness Northern Lights. Next to the saunas there are hot and cold water plunge pools and an outdoor jacuzzi. For Aurora Resort guests there is a morning sauna every day from 9 am to 12 am (noon). There are rooms and apartments in the resort. Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom. Guests staying in rooms have access to a shared kitchen and bathrooms. There is also a huge shared living with a fireplace for all guests to use. An illuminated and maintained ski trail runs next to the house. In the forest surrounding the resort you can go walking, skiing, cycling, snowshoeing or snowmobiling. Kuukkeli organizes activities, including northern light hunting trips in the evenings. We pick up guests from the resort. A versatile buffet-breakfast is served in Bistro-Cafe Kuukkeli from 8-10 am with free transportation at 8 and 9 am. If you are leaving earlier than 8 am, please notify us in advance, preferably when booking or at the latest when checking in. This will ensure that we can make you a breakfast bag the day before. Bistro-Cafe Kuukkeli also serves lunch, Lappish Dinner, A la carte menu, café products and freshly home-made pastries. You can also book airport transfers and taxis from us.
