Rovaniemi – The Beating Heart of Lapland Lapland’s capital, Rovaniemi, is truly one of a kind – the only city in the world where within minutes you can access all the essentials of Lapland: its Sámi, Finnish and Lappish culture, unique seasonal contrasts, and world-class services. What makes Rovaniemi remarkable is its setting: the pure nature of Lapland surrounds the city like a crown. Reindeer, northern wildlife, and spectacular natural phenomena – from the Midnight Sun to the Northern Lights – are only a short step from the compact downtown. The Northern Lights period starts from September ans stansds up to March. At the same time, you’ll find a rich cultural life: the Rovaniemi Theater and Korundi Cultural Center, the Science Centers Arktikum & Pilke, as well as vibrant summer and winter sports facilities, all just next door. Architecture also tells a story here. Internationally renowned designer Alvar Aalto left his mark with landmarks such as the City Hall, Lappia House, and the famous “Reindeer Antler” city plan. Even our nearest neighboring private home was designed by Aalto. Alongside him, the locally respected architect Ferdinand Salokangas contributed to shaping the city’s identity.
