Ian and I would very much like to welcome you to our home and Gites Rue Du Chateau, Ruffec. Having made the decision to change our lifestyle, we relocated from Norfolk, England, in April 2022, and are very much still developing our home and holiday cottage rental business, here in Ruffec. We are very pleased to be able to say that our first years have been very successful, with us receiving consistently excellent reviews and some lovely feedback. Guests have enjoyed the home from home feel and the beautiful and tranquil grounds we have to offer, the perfect place to relax, have some fun with family and friends and we will do our very best to make sure you leave with good memories. Described by one of our guests, as ''a beautiful place, with a fine balance between modern comfort and ancient charm'; guests also appreciate the feel of being in the countryside, but yet we are a just a short walk through the ancient quarters to shops, cafes and the twice weekly food market. I love live music and festivals and anything magical. I used to work in education, specifically in development of Early Years education. My partner, Ian, is a musician and we both worked in the public sector; together we have worked hard to use our past skills to build a beautiful and welcoming place for families and friends to spend time together.

Four French styled cottages available individually, or as a multiple cottage holiday home. Situated in the grounds of what was once the old Chateau estate, the two and a half acres of part walled garden and woodland, includes a stream running through an ancient Lavoir and an abundance of wildlife. A haven of tranquillity, where you will be able to relax, have fun and make those precious memories. With a lovely above ground pool (seasonal), boules area, outside kitchen, dining terraces, BBQs, hammocks, fire pits and garden games, the site is surprisingly peaceful and within walking distance of restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets, a beer warehouse and a local market. You can choose to stay on site or venture out and take part in one of the many local activities on offer, including activity lakes and the Rejallant Canoeing Centre. Cottages can be booked individually, or as multiple bookings, ideal for larger family and friends bookings, when you would like to have separate accommodation and be on the same site and with exclusive use of our on site facilities- Bumblebee Cottage sleeps 3 with direct access to dining terrace and gardens. Garden View Cottage sleeps 5/6 with a balcony over looking the gardens and direct access to dining terrace and gardens. Sunflower Cottage sleeps 4. Lavender cottage sleeps 4, ideally 2 adults and 2 children as you have to walk through the twin room to access the large master bedroom. Please note Lavender Cottage has a bath with NO shower. Both Sunflower and Lavender cottages have front doors which lead to a very quiet, access only, street. Both cottages have access to a covered dining terrace and the extensive gardens via a shared hallway, which also has laundry facilities and additional dining space for large group bookings. Hosts, Anna and Ian live on site to ensure a friendly welcome and will be available should you need anything. You will see them maintaining the pool, grounds and entering and leaving the site via a shared driveway.

The ancient city of Ruffec is a stopover town on the road from Paris to Spain. During the Second World War it was a centre of resistance for the evacuation of the Allied airmen to Spain and the final destination for our Cockleshell heroes. Gites Rue Du Chateau has been described as being situated within ' a little bit of the countryside, close to a town', within walking distance of a preserved Romanesque church, the old town streets, the town lavoir on the river Lien, the mill and remains of the old castle. 10 min walk to a twice weekly market, shops and cafes. Close to the picturesque villages of Verteuil-sur Charente and Nanteuil-en-Vallee.
