Verdalle, a humble little village nestled in the midst of green fields, hence its original name Verdala, meaning “verdant” in the Occitan dialect. The castle itself sumps up the history of this village, from Dame Guillemette de Loubens de Verdalle and Miss d’Auberjon. Around the village, you will discover the pristine landscape of the Montagne Noire, the picturesque villages and the eclectic natural wonders. A hike in the Desert of Saint-Ferreol and its chapel and you’d think you are in Irish countryside; a stroll in the Sidobre forest and you’d hear the whisper of the fairies and the trolls coming from the giant granite boulders, from the mysterious Lac du Merle or from the bubbling Saut de la Truite waterfall. Other wonders await your visit: a swim in the beautiful Lac de Saint-Ferreol, a bike ride along the ingenious Vauban Gutter or along the Canal du Midi, the local food and craft at the picturesque market in Revel, or dive right into the Middle Ages in one of the Cathar strongholds (Albi, Cordes-sur-Ciel, Carcassonne, Saissac, etc.).

Us… two unusual life stories which met to become one. Two lovers of nature and of human nature. In our little paradise, we humbly welcome you with no pool nor TV, but with our smiles and kindness. An unusual place with a heart wide open, where one may confuse doves with angels… To welcome you is sheer delight and if you believe in fate, destiny will lead your steps to the Château de Verdalle. Our 4-legged family extension will also welcome you with just as much enthusiasm: Petit-Coeur the ewe, LOL the billy goat, Lady the goat, Lucky the pug and Dewa the Siamese cat.

Although the property has lost a considerable amount of land along the centuries, it certainly has not lost any of its charm. The Château de Verdalle goes back to the 12th Century, at the time of the Crusades. However, its history is only fully known from its partial reconstruction in 1606 under Dame Guillemette, wife of Lord of Loubens and Verdalle. The long silhouette of the main building, built from river pebbles, reveals in its very heart a majestic stone staircase as well as a quaint chapel with its unique stained glassed windows. Since purchasing the property in June 2013, we have been restoring this heritage building while preserving its original forms. The 3-hectare park is home to centuries-old trees and curios which we are progressively bringing back to life (bamboo garden, water well, rose garden, pond, etc.). Yet what makes this place stand out from the rest is this soul which makes it so profoundly unique; a charming dwelling which beckons rest, serenity, and joy of life.
