Rue Royale in Annecy is a straight street which begins at the Saint Jean well and continues to Avenue de Chambéry. This street today hosts many quite luxurious boutiques. This Annecy street, partly pedestrian since the 1970s, has been rectilinear since its creation in 1823. The alignment of the buildings corresponds to a principle dating from the end of the 18th century, which was to open the cities to the outside world.
