Maison de la rivière is a boutique farmhouse set in the idyllic surroundings of the Bearn des Gaves region, by the river Saison, just 5min drive from the village of Sauvetere de Bearn. Recently-renovated, the property comprises of three double-bedrooms (2 doubles, 1 twin), perfect for families. It can seep up to 7 people thanks to the sofa-bed in the second sitting room. It has two sitting rooms, a stylish bathroom and an additional toilet, a large kitchen with seating for eight people, as well as a spacious terrace with loungers, overlooking the river Saison, where you can enjoy an alfresco dinner or start a barbecue. We have a fully-functioning heating system, as well as a wood burner. We are surrounded by 10 acres of land and we have direct access to the river for you to swim or fish. In addition to our chickens you will also find here goats and horses. IMPORTANT: Please note that the access to the river in France is public, therefore you may encounter other people when using the beach. Please also note that we, the owners, also reside on the property in a separate house.

We are Iulia, a Romanian advertising executive and writer, and Alistair, an Englishman from the North East and retail designer. We left our busy London lives behind in November 2017, when we purchased Maison de la rivière, a property we both fell in love with at first sight because of its perfect location, half-way between the Atlantic and the Pyrenees and just outside the beautiful medieval village of Sauveterre de Bearn. We love the fact that we are very well connected (Biarritz and Lourdes airports approx. 1 hour drive) and that we can enjoy complete privacy at the same time. We love swimming in the river during the hot summer months, long walks, looking after animals, fishing, yoga, writing and cycling. Alistair is an experienced fly fisherman and can provide advice if required. Our dog Filou is wonderful around children and loves playing football. Our chickens give us fresh days every day (which we also invite you to enjoy during our stay with us) and the goats love being fed (something fun for the children). We will give you the privacy you need on your holiday, but we'are always available with help and suggestions if needed. Just send us a message.

We have some of the region’s finest walks and cycling routes on our doorstep, as well as a great restaurant, Auberge Blondain. A larger selection of restaurants is also available in Sauveterre de Bearn, only a 5 minutes’ drive away, and the Atlantic Coast’s sandy beaches and beautiful seaside towns of Biarritz or Saint Jean de Luz make lovely day trips. We're also 1.5hrs drive away from the Pyrénées National Park: perfect for a day of trekking, camping or skiing. We are surrounded by charming villages such as Salies de Bearn, Navarrenx or St Jean Pied de Port. Our region is famous for its network or rivers and canoeing, kayaking or paddle boarding are popular for the entire family. Horse riding is available throughout the year, as well as golfing and access to the salt water Thermes in Salies de Bearn. To keep the children entertained, there quite a few fun parks and waterparks in our area, all within an easy drive. We have ten acres of land for your to roam around, if you want to keep it local. Take a refreshing swim in the river or fish (please be aware that the beach is a few minutes walk away from Maison de la riviere).
