Historic Appleby enjoys a reputation as one of the prettiest market towns. Sitting alongside the River Eden, it offers something for everyone – history buffs will enjoy the architecture evident in the town’s buildings, and Appleby Castle, open for visits, outside theatre events, comedy nights and outdoor cinema events throughout the year. Shops, cafés and restaurants offer local crafts alongside local cheeses! Look out for High Cross on Boroughgate, which is the site of the original cheese market.
