The studio offers a luxury retreat within easy reach of beautiful West Wittering beach and the attractions of Chichester. We can also accommodate boat trailers, with prior notice. The room looks out over the large garden, at the moment also a work in progress! Locally there are several pubs and restaurants, and a selection of shops in the village of East Wittering (5 minutes by car).

We moved to Claron Lodge in 2012. When we arrived, the house was in need of a little TLC though we loved the many original 1960’s touches and saw its great potential. The house has an interesting history. Part was the garage and servant’s quarters for Claron Way, a substantial property advertised for sale by Harrod’s Estate Agents in 1959 as a ‘house of charming character. Part dating from the 16th century but enlarged, modernised and equipped without regards to cost.’ Shortly after this, the property was sold separately from Claron Way shortly and the then owners made substantial additions in the 1960’s and early 70’s. We understand that the lady of the house at that time had been a homes and interiors journalist which would explain the many lovely features contemporary to that time.

Claron Lodge is on the edge of the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a West Sussex mecca for sailing, water sports, walking, cycling and bird watching. The natural and unspoilt sandy beach of West Wittering, one of the premier Blue Flag beaches in the country, is a pleasant 2 mile walk away. There are many attractions within easy reach: • Sailing on Chichester Harbour, and the delights of many harbour villages including Itchenor, Birdham and Bosham. • Chichester, with the Festival Theatre, Art Galleries, shops and restaurants (6 miles, with direct bus service every 30 minutes) • The Goodwood Estate with its historic house and extensive grounds, home to horse racing and motor sports events: the world-famous Festival of Speed, Goodwood Revival and Glorious Goodwood (10 miles / about 15 minutes) • The rolling farmland, ancient woodland, ‘picture perfect’ villages and traditional country pubs of the South Downs National Park (about half an hour’s drive) • History and archaeology at nearby Fishbourne Roman Palace and Arundel Castle
