Danes House is perfectly situated to enjoy all that Aldeburgh has to offer. It is a couple of minutes walk from the vibrant High Street and the beach just beyond. Alternatively, you can walk out onto the marshes to enjoy the peace and quiet and bird and wildlife watching opportunities. Aldeburgh has a large number of independent shops and restaurants, an independent cinema and the Jubilee Hall which hosts a wide range of concerts and plays. Both the Lighthouse and Aldeburgh Market Cafe use seasonal produce and take advantage of fresh fish on offer and locally reared meat. Fish and chips eaten on the beach are hard to beat or Slate can provide some tasty treats for a picnic. There are some beautiful walking routes in the area, in particular the sailors’ path which follows the Alde estuary from Aldeburgh to Snape Maltings, the home of the world famous concert hall. If you want to explore further afield without a car you can hire bicycles from Suffolk Cycle Hire. Younger visitors are likely to enjoy a trip to Thorpeness to head out onto Thorpeness Meare in a boat and explore the world of Peter Pan. Further inland there are a number of historic sites to visit such as Framlingham and Orford Castles and Sutton Hoo.
