Property information

Drawell Cottage is set in a sublime elevated position nestled under the flanks of the Howgill Fells near Sedbergh. Being the oldest home in the area it has bags of old country character and could tell a tale or two (George Fox, the founder of the Quakers stayed here on his way to Fox Pulpit in 1652). With stunning views of the Howgill Fells and upper Lune Valley from inside and out, you will relax from the moment you arrive at this peaceful idyll. This classic country cottage is fitted out with comfortable furnishings and has good space for four as well as a generous garden and sitting out area on a patio with the most wonderful view. Your faithful family dog is welcome but do be aware that this cottage is close to Bramaskew working cattle and sheep farm. On the ground floor there is a modern kitchen, the spacious lounge and a handy pantry. Upstairs to the two good-sized bedrooms and a familiy bathroom with bath and separate shower. Outside, there's plenty of parking space, a lawned rear garden, and a patio/ garden area to the front (south facing) with a table and seating. Found 2 miles from the attractive Dales small town of Sedbergh, you are in prime outdoor activity territory to explore some of Wainwright's favourite walking on the Howgill Fells and also within easy reach of the rest of the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. Sedbergh has great places to eat out and independent shops. Also nearby is the popular Farfield Mill art and craft centre and gallery, which has day courses for all sorts of creative activities.

Neighbourhood information

Unveiling Sedbergh: A Town Steeped in History and Natural Beauty Nestled amidst the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Sedbergh is a charming market town brimming with history and outdoor adventure. Its location places you at the heart of breathtaking scenery, with easy access to neighbouring towns and villages, making it the perfect destination for a quintessential British holiday. Sedbergh's rich heritage stretches back centuries. Its name, derived from Old Norse, translates to "flat-topped hill," hinting at the town's ancient origins. Mentioned in the Domesday Book, Sedbergh flourished as a market centre and later gained recognition for its prestigious public school, founded in 1525. Spuren der Vergangenheit (Traces of the past) can be found throughout the town, from the historic St. Andrew's Church to the remnants of Castlehaw, a Norman motte and bailey castle. Sedbergh's magic lies not just in its past but also in its vibrant present. Designated as one of England's Book Towns, Sedbergh is a haven for bibliophiles. Wander through independent bookshops overflowing with new, used, and rare treasures. Craving a taste of the outdoors? Sedbergh boasts a gateway location within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Lace up your hiking boots and explore scenic trails, or challenge yourself on renowned mountain biking routes. The Howgill Fells (don't miss Cautley Spout waterfall) are on your doorstep here, and Wainwright himself rated these fells as amongst his favourites for unspoilt beauty and the are far quieter than the Lake District fells. Neighbouring villages like Kirkby Lonsdale and Dent, a short drive away, offer further exploration and a quintessential Dales countryside and small market town experience. The Lake District is also within reach, and Sedbergh is only around 5 miles from Junction 37 of the M6. Sedbergh is more than just a destination; it's a chance to unwind and embrace a slower pace.
