Firthside and Firthview form part of a traditional red sandstone building that started life as the Eilean Dubh distillery, established between 1824 and 1832, with its proximity to the harbour allowing for delivery of barley and coal. It later became a grain store, and then a general agricultural store run by Rosehaugh Estates. In the early 50’s, the Mackay family acquired the building and the one next-door, and ran West End Stores, a general household/hardware/agricultural store for over thirty years. In 1972, the family converted part of building into their home, and the building became The Moorings. Over time, that home has been reconfigured. As a result of recent refurbishment, Firthside and Firthview were born, as part of a unique and very special coastal property.
