This accommodation is attached to the host's home but was very private. It is in the countryside close to Alston. The unit is roomy, bed comfortable and a good shower. Kitchen was well equipped and hosts readily gave any help needed.

Another quality weeks' stay at Barn End - the perfect stress relief. We will always love this place for its peacefulness and seclusion yet within walking distance to Alston centre. The hosts are just wonderful people who can't do enough to help.

We have two cottages available here Ghyll Burn Cottage and Barn End ( Please ensure you book the cottage you want!) Ghyll Burn Cottage ( Listed as Holiday Home) dates back to approx 1680 from a time when people lived upstairs and animals were kept below. Set in an off road location within the owners specialist nursery garden there is an abundance of birds and wildlife. Attached to the main house the cottage was fully renovated in 1991 retaining many original features. The kitchen and bathroom have been updated within the last 7 years. Entrance to the cottage is via an outside staircase. On first floor are the kitchen/dining room, living room with open beams, wooden floors and wood burning stove. A Sofa bed sleeps two and there is a w/c on this level. Downstairs are a double bedroom, twin bedded room and bathroom with over-bath shower. A cot and highchair is available on request. Bed Linen and towels are provided. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Barn End ( Listed as Two -bedroomed House) is a converted Barn with two bedrooms upstairs, living/dining room, kitchen and sunny conservatory. There is a shower room/wc on first floor and a separate wc on the ground floor. A stair lift is available for the less mobile. Upstairs are a double room with king size bed and a single room. A fold away(single ) bed is available in the living room.
We love watching the Red Squirrels, a wide variety of birds and the occasional roe deer wandering past. Footpaths lead right from the door so we can take many walks without even moving the car. We run a specialist alpine nursery- growing and selling plants at over 1050ft in the North Pennines.
Alston is situated in the heart of the North Pennines area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Ghyll Burn cottage is just over a mile away. The Pennine Way and C2C cycle route both pass through Alston. Set on a steep cobbled main street Alston has a good range of shops and amenities and lots of alleyways to explore. In Alston you will find South Tyne Railway, Co-op & Spar shop (including butcher), baker, chemist, whole-food shop, antiques, gifts and outdoor clothing shop. There is a vet and GP surgery. Five roads lead out of Alston giving access to the Lake District, Roman Wall and Carlisle, Hexham and Newcastle, Durham and Teesdale
