Voortrekker is set in the beautiful village of Levenwick with panoramic ocean views across the Southeast side of Shetland and right from the comfort of each apartment. We have 3 in-house self-catering apartments, Mogill and Soothpunds adjacent to each with their own private entrances and Quinni with private balcony entrance. Mogill and Quinni are open plan whereas Soothpunds is semi-open plan apartment. Please see the individual apartments for photos and details. Each apartment has been thoughtfully decorated using local historical reclaimed materials as part of the fabric of the build. Plus, using rocks from our property to form steps, walkways and BBQ walls. Every part of the build has been lovingly put together for comfort and appeal. Our aim in our accommodation is for our guests to feel relaxed, comfortable and at home. We provide everything needed to enjoy your holiday with us in all our apartments. To top it off with a bit of luxury in our wellness area with hot tub and spa overlooking the Levenwick cliffs where each guest has private use thereof (towels and spa gowns provided). Our property offers a place perfect for bird watching, sea life, rambling across the cliffs and much more. Shetland a place to come, unwind and enjoy the freedom it offers all year round.
We are a friendly couple, both love everything about Shetland, the people, the environment, peaceful living, animals and the weather! We want your stay to be the best experience, and our aim is to part of that in any way we can, from making you feel at home and being on hand to help throughout your holiday. We also recognize that some guests prefer their total privacy which we are very respectful off. A very warm welcome awaits you. A few things to note: We reside on the property with 2 friendly chorkie dogs (Nina & Sandy), 2 mischievous goats (Tom & Jerry) with their ram mate, Mickey, a bunch of sheep, another ram and 7 chickens. We love animals! Due to Nina having a major health condition plus both, behavioral issues towards other dogs we are unable to accept any kind of dog with our bookings.
Levenwick is an overlooked area that offers fantastic bird life, from the marshy wading birds to the various cliff birds nesting in the rocks below or gracing the skies above. It is an easy area for rambling across the fields and cliffs offering the most spectacular views from every angle. Along the cliffs there are plenty of nesting Fulmars, Guillemots, Razor Bills, Rock Pigeons, Shags and our very own Puffin colony. And on a hot day one can spot seals basking on the rocks below. Levenwick has a beautiful beach which is graced by visiting seals, birds and orcas as they circle the island. Voortrekker is based down the Southpunds road, overlooking the cliffs as far North and Southeast. Levenwick coastline has one of the oldest brochs and markings of old buildings that still can be seen. Personally, I think the Levenwick coastline is one of the most exciting because of the intricate rock formations, marshlands, birdlife, wildlife and much more. So much to explore right from the property. Our stunning local beach is minutes by car and accessible by walking by road or by exploring across the cliffs. We are in also in close proximity to the stunning tombola of St Ninians Isle. We are approximately 15mins from Sumburgh, 25mins to Lerwick, 60mins to the North making Voortrekker an ideal base for exploring Shetland.
