Company information

Offering the largest collection of cottages in the Coniston area, The Coppermines Lakes Cottages are the local experts. Independent Agents, locally owned, managed and staffed since 1982. The business was originally developed from the humble restorations of the historic Coppermines buildings, situated in the Coniston Coppermines Valley by Philip Johnston and his family who still own our business today, making us one of the last independent agencies here in the Lake District. Over the years we have significantly grown to now offer over 90 hand-picked, unique, self-catering Lake District cottages (many pet-friendly), all of which are situated within the UNESCO World Heritage boundary.

Property information

A romantic and charming retreat for 2 which is conveniently located for the very best that the Lake District has to offer. Travel south from Hawkshead on the way to the Windermere ferry, and you'll find the beautiful hamlets of Near and Far Sawrey. Near Sawrey was famously home to the children's author Beatrix Potter, and her house 'Hill Top' is now preserved by the National Trust. Carry on through into adjoining Far Sawrey, and you'll soon discover the grand house that is 'Sawrey Knotts'. Built in 1861, it was once a well-to-do gentleman's country residence. Perched high above the valley, it is now a collection of beautifully converted properties, each with its own character and charm. As you might expect from the name, Stables Cottages was once the stable serving the grand house. Of course that's no longer the case, as it's now been tastefully transformed into a romantic retreat for two, conveniently located for the best that the Lake District has to offer.

Neighbourhood information

Local Activities The areas surrounding Lake Windermere are some of the most picturesque in the Lake District, picture perfect cottages, dreamy landscapes and quaint villages not to mention home to some of the ever popular Lake District hotspots. Loved by Beatrix Potter, it's not hard to fall in love with the village of Hawkshead and the surrounding hamlets of High Wray, Near Sawrey and Far Sawrey. Away from the crowds who gather at Hill Top, solace can be found on the shores of the nearby Esthwaite Water and Blenheim Tarn. At the southern tip of Lake Windermere lies the quaint hamlet of Lakeside which as the name suggests enjoys open access to the lake shore. A favourite for families looking to explore, nearby attractions include the Aquarium of the Lakes, the Lakeland Motor Museum, the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Steam Railway & Fell Foot Park.
