Before travelling back in time and boarding the start of the narrow-gauge vintage steam railway that goes 8.5 miles west to Welshpool, there is a river walk along the banks of the Banwy that leads to an arboretum with over 25 distinct varieties of British trees. Welshpool is tucked away in the upper slopes of the lovely Severn Valley, not far from the Welsh-English border. This thriving market town is surrounded by rich, unspoiled farmland and rolling hills.
