Torside is a very pretty cottage in a gorgeous village. We were not able to do any walking due to bad weather but we were more than happy to stay cosy at home or in one of the lovely pubs! Lisa was so helpful and kind. We will be back!

Torside has all you need for a staycation either with your family or as a quiet place to work from home. There is complimentary Superfast Broadband and the option to have a desk instead of a bed if requested. Torside is a traditional Derbyshire limestone cottage set in its own garden. It is a vernacular building with rubble walls and wooden floors suspended over the bare earth. It is decorated to English Heritage standards and all external walls are lime plastered with pony hair binding it together. Features: - A spacious master double bedroom. - Second bedroom with a single bed and a small double bed. - Bathroom with over-bath shower - View of cliff from bathroom window, which gives Torside it’s name. - Fully equipped kitchen with double electric range oven and gas hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer etc. - Steam iron and ironing board. - Cosy living room with imposing open fire (composed of fossiliferous limestone). - Two 2-seater leather sofas. - Smart TV with Netflix. - DVD player and small selection of world cinema DVD’s. - High chair, stair gate and travel cot with bedding available on request. - Selection of children's toys and books. - Complimentary unlimited wi-fi. - Egyptian cotton towels and linen provided. - Gas fired central heating and power included. - Open fire and x1 complimentary bucket of coal. - Large shed to store bikes. - Parking available in Resident's Car Park for one car with a complimentary pass. - Sorry no pets and no smoking inside the cottage.
I am a retired University Lecturer in Nursing and I have been hosting Torside Holiday Cottage since the Winter of 2011. My family and I have lived in Castleton since 1999. I am interested in veganism and sustainable living. My partner is a Lecturer in Engineering.
Torside is the closest dwelling to Peak Cavern in the stunning and 'other worldly' Peak Cavern Gorge. The Gorge is a SSSI and one of the Seven Wonders of the Peak. Peak Cavern Gorge is a popular film set location due to the immediately dramatic scenery. It is a peaceful corner of Castleton, within walking distance of the village pubs, shops and cafes. Peak Cavern occasionally hosts events in the evening. See Peak Cavern website for details. Wildlife enthusiasts might see several species of bat flitting about, trout in Peakshole Water (AKA The Styx) and hear Tawny Owls conversing in Spring. Peak Cavern is a Jackdaw roost, which can provide wonderful entertainment on a warm Summer evening. A further 3 renowned show caverns are within walking distance. The scenery is dramatic and ever changing as the weather rolls in over Mam Tor from the West. Temperature inversions create outstanding conditions for photography. Castleton is a honey pot destination in the Peak District National Park. Castleton village has 7 pubs and 6 of these sell bar meals. There are 7 cafes, and a trattoria style restaurant. There are 2 small general stores in the village. Peveril Stores is also a small bakery and Coach House Stores is also the village post office. There are 4 jewellery shops in Castleton, specialising in pieces made with the locally mined banded fluorite called Blue John. The Peak District National Park hosts the very informative Castleton Visitors Centre and gift shop in the village. The Castleton Historical Society curates displays in the Visitor Centre. All these facilities are within a short walk of the cottage. Travel: There is free parking for one guest car in the residents section of Peak Cavern car park, about 1 minute walk away. Hope station is about 3 minutes drive away and this has regular trains to Manchester and Sheffield. There is a regular local bus service from Castleton Bus Station to surrounding villages and Sheffield.
