Property information

Town House B&B is ideally situated just a few yards from Skipton High Street. This makes it ideal for anyone travelling to the town whether they have personal transport or not. We have a large private car park which is free for guests to use and is right next tot he prmises.

Neighbourhood information

Skipton is renowned as the "Gateway to the Dales" being at the very start Of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, which is an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is a historic market town, know for sheep trading, hence the name, although John Birtwhistle who owned Birtwhistles Yard, became a very wealthy and influential cattle drover. He brought them down from the Highlands of Scotland, eventually taking them to market in London. Skipton was one of his main stopover points along the way. A plaque to commemorate him can be found in the Holy Trinity Church at the top of the High Street. The castle which dates back almost 1000 years was the only one to withstand the advances of the Cromwellian invasion and the inhabitants were eventually forced out under "Honourable surrender" when their food supply was completely depleted. It is now privately owned and one wing is lived in, whilst the rest is open to the public. It is often the backdrop for weddings, battle re-enactments and many special events. We also have many independent local shops, the vibrant street markets 4 days per week and of course the Leeds to Liverpool Canal, which winds its way through the centre of the town.
