Malathiros is a village of the Municipality of Kissamos, located 21 kilometers from Kissamos and 48 kilometers from Chania. Malathiros embraces its visitors with a beautiful interplay of colors in its meadows, dancing to the rhythm of the wind. The natural environment, with running water springs and natural trails, creates a paradise for relaxation and exploration. As you explore the area, you will encounter Byzantine churches and monuments that testify to Malathiros' presence since 1301. Specifically, you can visit the Byzantine Church of Agia Eirini, the temples of Hypandromi and Astratigos, as well as the ruins of the Venetian castle towers. In 1998, Malathiros received the designation of a martyr village from the Greek government. On August 28, 1994, the men of the village were executed en masse by the Nazi occupation forces. There is a monument in the village square commemorating the victims of the execution.
