This small picturesque village of Vothonas is located in the center of the island of Fira, very close to the village of Messaria. Vothonas is built in a steep gorge and it catches the eye for its unique, special architecture. The majority of the dwellings are cave houses the villagers built by carving out volcanic rocks. Together with the natural beauty, they form a settlement that you can enjoy by wandering through the charming, narrow alleys. A sense of tranquility and privacy pervades the entire village, and you can become part of it by staying in the Otto house cave house. There are several churches and chapels in Vothonas that are worth visiting due to their distinctive architecture and location. At the most beautiful entrance to the village you will find the church of Agios Roussos, built of pumice stone on a rock.
